Djokovic's 7-6, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 triumph on Sunday marked his record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam title, surpassing the previous record held by Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams.
The 36-year-old Serbian star faced a stern challenge from Ruud, but his experience and resilience proved too much for the Norwegian. Djokovic's victory also makes him the only male player to have won all four Grand Slam titles at least twice.
