The Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers faced off in a preseason Week 3 matchup on Saturday, August 27th, 2023. The game was played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The Steelers won the game, 19-15.
Steelers win in a nail-biter
The game was a close one throughout, with both teams trading blows. The Steelers took an early lead, but the Falcons came back to tie the game in the second quarter. The Steelers regained the lead in the third quarter, and held on to win the game in the fourth quarter. The two teams traded field goals in the first quarter, and the Steelers took a 10-3 lead into the second quarter. The Falcons tied the game in the second quarter on a touchdown pass from quarterback Marcus Mariota to wide receiver Drake London. The Steelers took a 13-10 lead into halftime on a field goal by kicker Chris Boswell. The Steelers extended their lead to 19-10 in the third quarter on a touchdown pass from quarterback Mitchell Trubisky to wide receiver George Pickens. The Falcons cut the lead to 19-15 in the fourth quarter on a touchdown pass from Mariota to tight end Kyle Pitts. However, the Steelers held on to win the game, as the Falcons failed to score on their final drive. The Steelers were led by Trubisky, who completed 15 of 23 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown. Pickens led the Steelers in receiving with 5 catches for 80 yards and a touchdown. The Falcons were led by Mariota, who completed 12 of 24 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Pitts led the Falcons in receiving with 4 catches for 73 yards and a touchdown. The Steelers improved to 2-1 in the preseason with the win, while the Falcons fell to 1-2. Both teams will play their final preseason game next week, as the Steelers will host the Detroit Lions and the Falcons will host the Jacksonville Jaguars.
